Ankle arthroscopy. Close-up of a camera endoscope inserted into a patient's ankle. The light (orange) from the camera can be seen glowing through the skin. A cut for insertion of an instrument endoscope has also been made (lower centre). These keyhole arthroscopy instruments are being used by orthopaedic surgeons to examine, and if necessary operate on, the inside of a patient's ankle. The arthroscope shows them pictures of the inside of the joint.
