Radar calibration. Researchers calibrating ice-detecting radar equipment as part of NASA's Operation IceBridge. They are calibrating the Multichannel Coherent Radar Depth Sounder (MCoRDS) during an IceBridge instrument test flight. Operation IceBridge is a NASA project that monitors polar ice cover using aircraft instead of satellites. It was introduced in 2009 as a replacement for the malfunctioning ICESat satellite.
