Tests of that species which have been slightly crushed accidentally can usually be identified by the thickened aperture- scales, but if these, as may rarely happen, are of the same thickness as the other scales of the test, and there is no trace of a neck, such crushed tests of E. strigosa cannot be distinguished from those of E. ciliata.
