Reverse side of a playing card with an illustration promoting Lovibond's home-delivery of their drinks products, c. 1935

Reverse side of a playing card with a charming illustration promoting Lovibond's home delivery by van of their beers, wines, spirits and waters, c. 1935. John Lovibond & Sons began brewing beer in Greenwich in 1847. The Greenwich and Salisbury based brewer greatly expanded their off-licence shops during the 1930s. The company ceased brewing in 1959 to concentrate on their wine business until they were purchased by Wine Way Supermarkets in 1968. The Lovibond beer brand has been revived since 2005 in Henley-on-Thames at the former Ive Brothers brewery - vintage graphics for editorial use only.
