I use a horizontal bar witha scale upon the front of it graduated in millimetres with zero atthe middle point of the bar. This bar slides up and down upon twobrass rods which rest upon the floor on a base like a standard bar can be readily detached at one end and opened like a gateto facilitate the placing of the patient. A small holder carrying theCrookes tube slides horizontally along the bar, and there are twostop-pieces with set-screws which permit the tube to be quickly movedand accurately fixed from any position on one side of zero to thesame position on the other side. To adjust the Crookes tube to a particular height is a small barapplied vertically carrying the tube up and down with it and actingas a fine adjustment. It is fixed with a set-screw. A small spirit-levelis inserted on the top of the cross-bar. This part of the apparatus issimply a convenient method for shifting the tube in taking the twoskiagraphs, and somewhat similar arrangements have been used
