Nostrils nearer mouth than to end of snout. Nasal cirrhus small. Labial folds very short. Endolymphatic openings inconspicuous. Body: Spindle-formed. Lateral line obsolescent. An interdorsal ridge present anteriorly, becoming indistinct before the second dorsal fin. No keel on caudal peduncle which has a lunate pit above and below. Pit organs small and numerous. No umbilical scar. Shagreen of small, close- set, imbricate denticles, each crossed by three (or sometimes four or five) carinae. Measurements: Following the symbols listed in Proc. Linn.
