An old engraving of the Niagara Clifton Bridge c. 1870. It is from a Victorian book of the 1890s on discoveries and inventions during the 1800s. The Niagara Clifton Bridge (or the first ‘Falls View Suspension Bridge’) was a suspension bridge over the Niagara River between Niagara Falls, New York, USA and Clifton, Ontario, Canada. It was designed by Samuel Keefer, with construction starting in 1867. Its span of over 1200 feet was the longest in the world at the time. It was officially opened for traffic in 1869 and was destroyed in a storm in 1889.

It was officially opened for traffic in 1869 and was destroyed in a storm in 1889. Shortly following the collapse, a second bridge of the same design was ordered to be built quickly. The second Falls View Suspension Bridge opened in 1889 but was dismantled in 1898 when construction of the Honeymoon Bridge was complete. This suspension bridge is sometimes confused with the Niagara Falls Suspension Bridge which stood from 1855 to 1897 across the Niagara River and was the world's first working railway suspension bridge.
