A photograph taken by Cpl. Carnochan on July 29, 1918, shows Suuren E Company's office of the 167th Regiment Infantry, formerly the 4th Regiment Infantry of the Alabama National Guard. The company was located in the woods near Beuvardes, France, close to the front lines. The men carried cooked food on ration carts at night, traveling on shell-swept roads. The photo was issued and passed by censor on September 1, 1918.
