Sgt. Ryan Hetu, from Pittsfield, New Jersey, fires at targets while flying in a CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter Jan. 14 during exercise Lava Viper at Pohakuloa Training Area, Hawaii. Hetu is firing a GAU-21 .50-caliber machine gun from the tail of the aircraft. Two CH-53Es flew on a simulated air mission. The aircraft is from Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 463, Marine Aircraft group 24, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. Hetu is a crew chief with the squadron. ( Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl.
