Façade of the Hotel Fieubet, ancient hotel particulier now seat of the Ecole Massillon, in Quai des Celestins in the Marais district, Paris, France

A first hotel at Quai des Célestins was built after 1587 for Raymond Phélypeaux d'Herbault, and bought in 1676 by Gaspard III Fieubet, chancellor of Queen Marie-Thérèse, it was immediately modified by the architect Jacques Gabriel IV. The rest was remodelled at the time of the Marquis de Lavalette, owner in 1857, who had the courtyard and street facades remodeled by Jules Gros. The latter used vigorous Italian-Spanish neo-baroque motifs, which struck mainly by their profusion at the corner of Rue du Petit Musc. Fruit falls, garlands, trophies, fire pots, draperies, cariatides and mascarons invade the entire epidermis of the facades. The Massillon School has occupied this hotel since 1877.
