The building in the background, turnedinto a temple by tiic restorers, Petersen surmises to be anenclosure surrounding the whole Ara Pacis. Thus thissacrificial scene is imagined as taking place at the Ara Pacisitself, while the scene of sacrifice on the right of theentrance, is placed by Petersen in tlie Lupercal (the caveat the corner of the Palatine), indicated by the figureof Faunas (?) seen leani
