The Dwarf Buffalo, although the smallest of theAfrican buffaloes, is every bit as strong, as pugnacious,and as dangerous as all his other relatives, and will fightto the RY ASTOR, LENOX ANDTIUDEN THE BROWN BEAR THE Brown Bear lives in Northern Europe, and is foundin Asia as far as the Himalayas. It was at one timefound in the British Isles, but the last one was killed in theyear 1057, in Scotland. It is a big, heavy animal; whenfull grown its length is often from five to seven feet, and itwill sometimes weigh as much as six or seven hundredpounds. Although a rather slow-moving animal, this bear is adangerous foe when very hungry or at close quarters withan enemy. He is tremendously strong, and has a habit ofdirecting all his blows at a mans head. He has a widehead, a short thick neck, a snout-like nose, a big mouthfull of large, strong teeth, thick short sturdy legs, and bigfeet with claws of moderate length, which do not retract,and make a curious tapping sound as he walks on hardground.
