Tokyo, Japan - 13 November 1987; Yasakuni is a controversial place. It remembers Japan's Imperial war dead, and houses many war criminals. Annual celebrations here cause much ire and political friction in countries invaded and brutalised by Japan in World War 2, in particular China and Korea. A focus for right-wing groups in the country, official ceremonies at the shrine regularly cause outrage and protests throughout the Region.
