This plaque is at the back and base of the Andrew Carnegie statue in Pittencrieff Park in Dunfermline, Scotland. The plaque reads: Andrew Carnegie born in Dunfermline in 1835. Having achieved great success in the United States of America he devoted his fortune to the good of mankind. This monument is erected by his fellow citizens in grateful appreciation of his many gifts to his native city AD 1914. Andrew Carnegie, born in Dunfermline on 25 November 1835 was a Scottish - American Industrialist. He immigrated to the States in 1848 with his parents. He is credited at leading the expansion of Americas Steel industry in the 19th century. He is remembered as one of the most important philanthropists of his era having devoted the later years of his life on projects which helped thousands of people in America and the United Kingdom. He was responsible for funding 3000 libraries across many countries. He died in 1919 in the USA where he is buried. His remaining wealth of $30,000,000 was given to foundations, charities and pensioners. This statue was paid for by public subscription and sculpted by Richard Goulden. 20,000 people turned out to see it's unveiling in 1914.
