U Boddinstraße Underground U-Bahn railway station serves the U8 line, Neukölln, Berlin, Germany It is located below Hermannstrasse at the intersection of Boddinstrasse in the Neukölln district. The BVG station opened in 1927 and is one of the oldest on the line. It is named after Hermann Boddin who was mayor of the community from 1874 to 1907 and later the mayor of Rixdorf (now Neukölln). A line was first planned in 1912 but early development was interrupted by World War I and the work resumed in the mid-1920s. Boddinstrasse underground station was part of the first section of the new line to be opened between Leinestrasse and Gesundbrunnen The architects of the stations were Alfred Grenander and Alfred Fehse and the basic structure was based on the underground stations belonging to the North-South Railway (today's U6 line), which opened in 1923. The station has a central platform with exits that open onto a central island in Hermannstraße. The ceramic wall tiles were light gray with an upper and lower border of blue tiles. The central pillars were blue, and the platform surface was asphalt. On 17 July 1927 the line between Boddinstraße, Hermannplatz and Schönleinstraße was opened. When the Boddinstraße station opened, there was only one more station further along the line, Leinestraße. The southern extension to the Leinestraße underground station went into operation on August 4,1929. Operations were halted on April 23, 1945, due to Allied bombing. Three weeks later, operations resumed between Boddinstrasse and Schönleinstrasse on May 14, 1945, and three days after this the connection between Boddinstrasse to Leinestrasse was put back into operation. The station was one of the first stations of the Berlin U-Bahn to be put back into operation after the war. At the beginning of 2012, the BVG announced a complete renovation of the station.
