The Revolutionary War 77 A monument in commemoration of the Battle of Ben-nington has been erected at Bennington Center, near wherethe Vermont Council of Safety held its sessions for severalyears, and on ground about three hundred feet above thebed of the Walloomsac River. Half a mile distant towardthe south is Mount Anthony, more than two thousand fivehundred feet in height. The monument is thirty-sevenfeet six inches square at the base and three hundred onefeet ten and a half inches high. Two hundred and twenty-five feet above the base are large openings on each side,with supporting pillars and protecting railings, and withinis a floor that covers the entire area.
