View of River Torridge at Low Tide and the Old Iron Railway Bridge, Part of the Tarka Trail, Viewed from Lord Rolle’s Limekiln, Landcross, nr Bideford
View looking up the River Torridge from Landcross near Bideford. The picture shows the valley detail with the old iron railway bridge which is now part of the Tarka Trail. This bridge offers great river views down to Bideford and up towards Weare Gifford. The tidal range here is quite significant, offering a wide range of estuary conditions together with resident and visiting wildlife. The view was taken from Lord Rolle’s lime kiln which is an historic construction where lime was produced for the estate prior to the railways. Coal and Stone were brought here by boat and distributed as far up as Great Torrington by river and canal.
