Forthree years he threw into the develop-ment of this school all the forces of hisenergetic nature, and brought up theattendance from forty to nearly onehundred pupils, by his fidelity, enthusi-asm, and thorovigh fitness for his work. .Durinff this time he became a studentof law under Hon. William S. the fall of 1865 he went to Danville,Vt., and had charge of Phillips academyfor a year, continuing his legal studieswith Hon. Bliss N. Davis. Li the fallof 1866 he conducted the academy atWest Randolph, Vt., pursuing the study.
