USi to n35 Main St—5 to i9 Efm St. 23 BRIDGEPORT, CONN. MAINE- GROWN SEED POTATOES Farmers and market gardeners should re- new their seed potatoes at least every two years, so as to get the full advantage of early maturity and productiveness. The potatoes we offer can be depended upon as being strictly first-class and true to name. They are carefully grown and selected by experts, who grow seed potatoes exclusively in the most desirable location in Maine. The whole crop has been hand-picked. Small, scabby or spongy tubers were rejected, with the result that our potatoes are all of first size, sound and free from rot. Every year many thousands of barrels of potatoes are sold for seed by commission dealers and seedsmen ' under spurious names, picked up on the market at a guess or misnamed. Our potatoes are packed in bbl. bags, containing 165 lbs. net, but will be sold in any quantity. Special prices on 20 bushel and carload lots. No charge for bags. Write for prices. Use 10 bushels to the acre. Culture.—In soil as rich as possible, and as early as it can be worked, plant the ''eyes" in rows 3 feet apart, and 1 foot apart in the rows. If an extra early crop is wanted, much time may be gained by cutting the eyes as for planting about six weeks before planting time, and placing them in a warm, light room. They will sprout vigor- ously, and when plant- ed, will grow much more rapidly than if treated in the ordinary manner. The potato-bug or Colo- rado beetle is Its chief enemy, which may be gotten rid of by thorough dusting with Paris green and plaster, or sprinkling two or three times with a so- lution of Paris green in water—a tablespoonful to the bucket. EARLY VARIETIES. Early Norther. Ex- tra early, very prolific and desirable; fine table quality; cooks dry and mealy. New Q
