Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force James Roy's primary responsibilities are to ensure enlisted Airmen are properly trained and equipped to perform their missions and to advise the secretary and chief of staff of the Air Force on enlisted matters. The position was created in 1967, with then-Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Paul W. Airey being the first CMSAF.
