The Ely Hoop Trundle. A race between four Scholars of the King's School Ely held each year in the grounds of Ely Cathedral
Ely Hoop Trundle Saturday 2nd May 2015, Ely, Cambridgeshire, England, United Kingdom. The Ely Hoop Trundle is held on the Saturday before the May Day Bank Holiday and is raced between the scholars of King's School Ely. A tradition that dates back to the re-founding of the school by King Henry VIII in 1541. The race is run in the grounds of Ely Cathedral where the four runners in school uniform with gowns compete over an out and back course rolling a hoop with a stick. The number of entrants requires elimination heats, the winning boy and girl each having their names engraved on a brass plaque on a wooden tankard.
