Manchineel Hippomane Mancinella POISON The milky sap of the manchineel causes blistering and severe inflammation of the skin in some persons. Smoke from the burn- ing wood may injure the eyes. This plant is found only along the ocean beaches where it often forms dense thickets. The small tree has pale brown, smooth bark and very small green flowers. The fruit resembles a small green apple. It is also called manzanillo.
