Meteosat second generation-1 (MSG-1) weather satellite being prepared for launch. The satellite is being prepared in early August 2002 for fuelling at the S5A payload processing complex at the Guiana Space Centre, Europe's space port in Kourou, French Guiana, prior to its mating with its Ariane 5 launcher. MSG-1 is the first of four MSG satellites. It was launched on top of an Ariane 5 rocket on 28 August 2002. It transmits detailed meteorological images to Earth every 15 minutes. It is a joint project by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European organisation for the exploitation of meteorological satellites (EUMETSAT).
