It had been rain- ing, but the creek could be forded on the evening he crossed to our side; but during tho night it had risen and was swimming. I saw Benhaiu pass our house toward the ford, but not thinking that he would attempt to cross, did not tell bim to the contrary! I supposed be was going to the creek to water his But in a few minutes after he passed, I heard shouting and went to the door; and saw the men from the blacksmith shop standing on the bank of the creek.
