08/03/14 To mark Lent worshippers drag an 18 ft cross over 18 miles from Derby to Burton-on-Trent. The 'Big Blue Cross' as it is known, was on the outside wall of a former Methodist chapel in Derby. The chapel is being turned into a conference hall so congregation members from The King’s Way Church, in Queen Street, Burton volunteered to haul the cross to their church in the town. "During Lent it is traditional, among many Christians, to give something up or to take something up so we decided to take up our cross at the start of Lent in preparation for Easter". said Phil Crathorne, Leader of Kingsway Church.
