The Casa Batlló is a building designed by the architect Antoni Gaudí, leader of the Catalan Modernism. This is a remodeling of an existing building previously on the site, designed by Emilio Sala Cortés. It is located at number 43 Paseo de Gracia (Passeig de Gracia in Catalan) in Barcelona, the broad avenue that runs through the modernist Eixample district (Eixample), the so-called Apple of Discord (L'Illa de la Discòrdia) because of this building also houses other works of modernist architects: Amatller house, which adjoins that of Gaudí, Josep Puig, the Casa Lleo Morera by Lluís Domènech i Montaner and Casa Miralles, Enric Sagnier i Villavecchia. The building was constructed between 1904 and 1906.
