The Flamingo is a well-known bird in the southof Europe. The European species was formerly con-founded with the true P. ruber, which is a bird foundboth in America and Africa. The Rosy Flamingo, as I venture to call it, is foundprincipally on the coasts of Spain, Italy, and France,which abut on the Mediterranean. It is found acci-dently in Sicily and Calabria. It is also found onthe banks of the Rhone, and in Provence; rarely onthe Rhine. According to Temminck it passes the winterin great numbers in the marshes and swamps betweenCagliari and Capoterra.
