An arthroscope is a type of endoscope used to examine joints of the body. The leading tip is inserted into position beneath the skin. Through an eyepiece the surgeon can guide the tip to a precise site within the joint. Small instruments (forceps and scalpel) may then be inserted through the endoscope to perform remedial surgery. It is a minimally-invasive procedure which has the added advantage of leaving a tiny scar (\keyhole surgery\")."
