Wai Khru or 'Tattoo Festival' at Wat Bang Phra. Nakhon Chaisi. Thailand.
Every year devotees or 'Luuksits' return to their tattoo 'masters' to have the power of their Sak Yan tattoos replenished. They will often go into a trance in emulation of the animal tattooed on their skin. Wat Bang Phra in Nakhon Chaisi near Nakhon Pathom is the largets tattoo festival in Thailand and devotees are in the lineage of its founding role in the tradition, Luang Phor Poen. The crowds here are vast and it has became a huge media tourist annual event charged with action and drama.
