Gaziantep, Turkey. 20 June 2021. Omar Al-Farouq is a 12-year-old Syrian boy who left his home country and moved to southern Turkey with his family in 2014 to flee the conflict. Omar has been practicing the Shotokan style of karate since 2016 and he has participated in various tournaments in this martial art achieving good results and winning many medals. Shotokan is a traditional form of karate which has been developed in Japan from various martial arts by Gichin Funakoshi and his son Gigo
