Thus it is not clear which structures he had in mind for sowerbyellids, and whether these would be homologous with the anderidia in chonetids, and so the term is not used in this paper. Gill (1969), whilst describing the Notanopliidae, an interesting Devonian group which might have been descended from some sowerbyellid, erected a new series of names for various sets of septa in both valves.
