ROTA, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands - A Marine with Combat Logistics Battalion 31 prepares to enjoy a dinner at the house of Victor Hocog, lieutenant governor of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), during typhoon relief efforts, Sept. 11. The lieutenant governor of CNMI invited the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit’s Humanitarian Assistance Surveillance Team to his house to show his gratitude and welcome the Marines and Sailors to Rota. Service members from the Indo-Pacific Command are providing Department of Defense support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and working with Guam and Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands’ civil and local officials for Typhoon Mangkhut recovery efforts. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible force ready to perform a wide-range of military operations.
