Racehorse was an 18-gun sloop of the Royal Navy, later refitted as a survey vessel commanded by Constantine John Phipps. Carcass was an Infernal-class bomb vessel of the Royal Navy, later refitted as a survey vessel on which a young Horatio Nelson served as a midshipman.
