China: 'Vase of Flowers'. Hanging scroll painting on silk by an unidentified artist after Chen Hongshou (1598-1652), 17th century. Chen Hongshou (1598-1652), courtesy name Zhanghou and pseudonym Laolian, was a Chinese painter from Zhuji who lived during the late Ming Dynasty era. Chen trained under the famed artist Lan Ying, and developed a plump and profound brushwork style that lent itself to illustrations and tapestry portraits.
