Winds and bitter cold with wind chill factors exceeding minus 20 degrees created vapor both above the forming ice in Lake Michigan and exhausting from buildings within the Chicago skyline. The extreme tempertures and conditions greeted the New Year on New Year's Day 2018 creating a deserted solitude to the scene. Significant buildings in the scene include, from left, the Legacy at Millennium Park, Smurfit-Stone Building, Trump Tower, One Prudential Plaza, Two Prudential Plaza, Aon Center, the Blue Cross-Blue Shield Center,, the John Hancock Building and Lake Point Tower. The structure beyone the frozen lake wall and forming ice is McCormick Place, Chicago's premier event and convention venue.
