The Maritime Pine (Pinus pinaster) is a pine native to the western and southwestern Mediterranean region. The cones are conic, 10–20 cm long, 4–6 cm broad at the base when closed, 8–12 cm when opened. Green when immature, ripening glossy red-brown at 24 months old. They release the seeds slowly over the next few years, or quicker after a forest fire. The seeds are –1 cm long, with a – cm wing, wind-dispersed. #/1pinus+pinaster
