TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 17, 2023) – Former Senator, Secretary of the Navy, and Marine James Webb tells the story of the recently recovered dog tag belonging to Cpl. Larry Hughes, a Marine Corps Vietnam veteran, during a ceremony at Inglis Town Hall in Inglis, Florida on Friday, Feb. 17, 2023. Webb, a decorated Marine Corps veteran who received the Navy Cross for his actions while serving as a platoon commander in Vietnam, and Michael Desch, a professor of International Relations at the University of Notre Dame and the director of the Notre Dame International Security Center, recovered Hughes’ dog tag while conducting a battlefield study at the An Hoa airstrip in Vietnam. The dog tag was subsequently returned to the family of Cpl. Hughes, who passed away in 2019.
