The search party set out on the US Rodgers about two weeks after the US Jeannette on a Arctic scientific exploration was crushed by the ice pack and its crew set off on Rodgers joined with the survivors of part of the Jeannette crew including Chief Engineer George W. Melville (pictured) and tracked down the bodies and belongs of most of their fallen shipmates.
