Farmers face many challenges in Syria such as the perils and costs of cultivating in a conflict zone, high transport costs, dangerous routes, and limited marketing opportunities. With the disruption of Syria’s power grid, many farmers rely on solar power to generate electricity and to operate wells and extract water. The danger in farming increases even further in combat areas like Bayan, where farmers are closely caught in the fighting between opposition groups and Syrian government forces
