CouRTOis, , Director of the Siccawei Museumnear Shanghai. (Plate III.) This species, which was briefly described in the Bulletinof the B. O. C. for October last as Pucrasia joretiana, isintermediate in some respects between P. darwini andP. xanthospila. From the first-named it presents thefollowing difierenccs :— 1. The feathers of the back of the shoulders and of thesides of the breast have two wide triangular black streaksconverging to the tip, instead of new Species of Pucras Pheasant. 15 2. Tlie centres of the featliers on tlie sides of tlie body, aswell as those of tlie wings and of the back, instead of beingyellowish or buffy, are greyish white. 3. The occipital crest is more tufted and A^ery short, not above 2 inches in length ; it is formed of broad androunded feathers, not narrow, long, and pointed ones. 4. The under tail-coverts and central tail-feathers haveno broad margin of chestnut, but are only black and white. 5. The median patch of chestnut on the neck and chest isdarker and richer. From P. xanthospila it differs in the absence of thecharacteristic golden patch on the neck and shoulders,as well as in the shape of the crest. The following arc the dimensions of the type, a presumedmale, now in the Natural History Museum:—Length228 inches^ Aving 8-9, tail 79, tarsus 275, middle toe andclaw 2-70. The distinct nature of this Pucras Pheasant was firstnoticed by the Eev. P. Heude, , by Avhom it wasprovisionally
