Other vestiges may be traced near the ] MAT ALIA. Proceeding from this spot towards the west, we come toSanta Maria di Matala^ where are some ruins and mosaicpavements,^ the site of the ancient Matalia, w^hich was one ofthe ports and emporia§ of Gortyna.
