Marius Petipa, Russian ballet dancer and choreographer, c1855. Petipa (1818-1910) is widely regarded as the most influential balletmaster and choreographer of all time. He was Premier Maître de Ballet of the St Petersburg Imperial Theatres from 1871 until 1903. From a private collection.
