Light microscopy of sebaceous glands of skin. Sebaceous glands secrete their waxy/oily product, called sebum, into ducts that empty directly on to the skin surface or into a hair follicle with which they are commonly found. Unusually for glands the secretory products from sebaceous glands are modified whole cells that have lost their nucleus and this is called holocrine secretion. Sebaceous glands serve to lubricate the skin and hair. Magnification x230 when narrow width printed at 10 cm.
