The question of the establishment in this city of a hospitalfor the care of the sick or injured, who are without the meansof suitable treatment elsewhere, has been raised from time totime among benevolent and philanthropic persons and themedical profession for several years. Recently such an in-stitution came to be regarded as more and more a necessityand the eighth of January, 1885, a few persons deeply inter-ested in the matter associated themselves together for thepurpose of forming a corporation to be known as the UnionAid Hospital of Fitchburg. The first meeting of the sub-scribers was held on the nineteenth of January. At thismeeting by-laws were adopted, directors chosen, committeesappointed, and all necessary steps taken in compliance withthe laws of the state to obtain incorporation. A certificate of incorporation was issued on the twenty-sixt
