A Northern Saw whet owl perched on a spruce tree on the Leslie Street spit bird sanctuary near downtown Toronto Ontario Canada

The Northern Saw-whet Owl (Aegolius acadicus) is a miniature short-bodied species of owl maturing to a height of only 7 to 9 inches when fully grown. Due to their expansive wing size they look much larger when they take flight at dusk to search for prey. .This example was photographed at the Leslie Spit, a bird sanctuary and wildlife habitat built over the years from recycled building materials that extends 7 kilometres out into Lake Ontario, near the city of Toronto Canada
