Chinstrap penguin chicks (Pygoscelis antarctica) being brooded beneath the brooding patch of one of their parents. The breeding season is from January to March, later than other penguins, and they lay a clutch of two eggs. Unlike most other penguins, the chinstraps hatch chicks of nearly equal size, and both chicks survive. They are fed on food that is regurgitated by their parents. The chicks are independent at 60-70 days old. Chinstrap penguins are found on Antarctic and subantarctic coasts, feeding on krill in the oceans. Photographed on Bellingshausen Island, South Sandwich Islands, southern Atlantic Ocean.
