Skin graft on the scalp of a 27 year old man following a road traffic accident. This is six weeks after the operation to graft the new skin on. Skin grafts are used when a wound is too large to heal naturally, or will cause severe scarring if left. The skin for grafts is generally taken from the same patient to prevent rejection of the tissue by the immune system. In this case, it was taken from back. See image M336/057 for the scar caused by the graft's removal.
