Coal for operating theplant is dumped direct from the cars on theviaduct into the bins in front of the steamboilers, and a Custodis radial brick chimney,125 feet high, is provided, of ample size toaccommodate the plant running at its fullcapacity. In addition to the steam for heating thebuildings, as above noted, this power plantfurnishes direct electric current at 220 voltsfor operating motor-driven passenger andfreight elevators in the passenger station,. he:ited and lighted from the central powerplant and controls, electrically, all signals onthe signal bridge ov er the umbrella sheds andall switches leading onto the \iaduct, theswitches being operated by compressed air. Across Chapline Street, west of the pas-senger station, is located the power-house,which furnishes all heat, light and powerfor the Wheeling terminal layout. Thebuilding is about 100 feet long by ()0 feetwide, and two stories high, and is of fire-proof construction throughout, being ofdesign and detail of finish to harmonize with and alternating current for incandescent andarc-lighting purposes, not only at the .stationand approach, but in the coach yard locatedat 27th Street, the freight yard adjacent tothe power-house, as well as freight station,etc., located near the site of the old pas-senger station. It is probable that withinthe near future electricity for operating lightsand for power purposes at Benwood Junc-tion, possibly Rellaire,
