In 1843 hewas elected a director in the Chicopee Bank of Springfield,now the Chicopee National Bank, and in April, 1846, waschosen its president, and remained in office until his death. May 24, 1831, he married Abby C. Bliss, daughter of George Bliss, Sr. She died . October i, 1833, he married for a second wife Clarinda Bond, daughter ofThomas Bond. He came to Springfield andbegan work at the Armory in 1821, remaining twenty years,and afterwards removed to Burnside, Conn. In 1843 hereturned to Springfield, and in 1861 was appointed keeperof the Arsenal at the Armory, and afterwards was madegovernment inspector of supplies, until the close of theWar of the Rebellion. He was connected with the BigelowManufacturing Company, manufacturers of soda 1855, he was an alderman from Ward four. He was a valued member of the First CongregationalChurch (Rev.
