There is never any contention in thechurch about baptism, or the Lordssupper. For the apostles plainly andexpressly declare their import and use. What is a more wonderful thing thanleet-washing to manifest our tendernessand love one to another. It is right towash feet. It is on my mind to do so,but here is a brother that does not seeit connected with the Lords supper, be-cause in no instance after the church isset up on the day of Pentecost is it everonce mentioned by a single apostle as. the Lords supper. will he bear withhis house and he^says Iash your feet, and girds him-Tnd does so, and I feel that he is anumble child of God, and he so regardsie. In the minds of many brethren anordinance is that which certain char-acters are authorized to administeras the administration of baptism andthe Lords supper. That then is an ordi-nance. We would not hold that a wid-ow woman can baptize or administerthe Lords supper. No Baptist would for a moment rec-ognize one a true Baptist who has neverbeen baptized. Hence, baptism is an or-dinance, or is indispensable to the exist-ence of a church. We say then that bap-tism is an .ordinance. So the Lordssupper is set down in scripture as an or-dinance. In the i ith chapter of 1st,Cor. Paul commends the brethren forkeeping the ordinances, and names theLords supper as an ordinance, so in i 5thof 1st Cor. he names baptism, but nota word is said about feet-washing. We do not mean to ignore washingthe
